My mom and I went to a very big antique mall while I was visiting and I bought a camera (of course I bought a camera!): a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash, a cheap, but very pretty camera, so ubiquitous in it’s day that you can’t go anywhere, not even to the counter to pay for the thing, without someone sighing: ohhh, I had one of those when I {insert favorite nostalgic activity here}. And here’s the thing: what will my 13-year-old niece feel nostalgic about in 50 years? Her iTouch? The thing won’t work, the Hawkeye totally works and probably will in 50 years. Jeez, I sound like a crank!
Now, you kids! Get off my lawn!
I’m right in there with everyone else. I loved my Brownie. My early albums are thanks to that camera. I had no idea you could still get film for it.
I think that’s a great question – what will this generation be nostalgic for? It might be the seed for a book…….not mine.
