Pretty pretty cars

Every year in early July, Ann Arbor’s downtown is invaded by classic cars. This was the first year I went (mainly because my dad was there for the first time with his Morgan). I didn’t take as many pictures as I would have liked, but I’m pretty happy with what I did get.

These were taken with the Nikon using Fomapan film (ISO 100) and developed in Rodinal for 3.5 minutes. I’ll have more to post over the next few days — I had two rolls and a nice number turned out well.

Color Mamiya

These aren’t all that wonderful, and even worse is that out of 24 frames these are the only ones that are at all salvageable. And when am I going to learn that I need to use a tripod with the Mamiya? Seriously, the thing is so heavy that even at 1/125th of a second, I get some blurring. It isn’t that I dislike the photos so very much, it’s just they aren’t really up to the standards of the camera. The Mamiya is capable of such crisp detail and lovely colors, these just don’t do it justice. I’m not doing it justice.

Hawkeye

Most of this roll didn’t turn out — some kind of light leak.

This has a bit of an “arty” effect, but it’s pretty awful.

This could have been taken in the 1970’s (except that Espresso Royale didn’t exist), the outside of Ulrich’s hasn’t changed since, you know, ever.

This is part of the new addition to the University of Michigan’s art museum (reflected in the door is Angell Hall). I love this addition, it is so thoroughly modern, yet fits beautifully with the two surrounding (much older) buildings. Here is a view of the original museum and the addition.

Another view of the addition, closer to State St.

Why so long?

I’ve had these pictures done and ready to post for a couple of weeks now. I think I was remembering them as being especially crummy, but I am happy to see that they aren’t so bad. Not especially inspired, but not awful. These were taken with the Argus, using Kodak 160VC.

Random Pictures

I took these a couple of weeks ago (at Easter, when it was apparently on the warm side). These were taken with the Nikon 35mm, on Arista ISO 100 film, and developed in the 1:25 Rodinal for 3.5 minutes.

Hawkeye in Color!

I am so in love with these, I can’t even tell you. I love them all: dirty lens, out of focus, weird light leaks, imperfect framing and all.

This one is my favorite:

Mamiya in Color

Meh. I really need to get more disciplined about what I’m doing. I’m not paying enough attention to lighting, background, and other details.

Hawkeye!

My mom and I went to a very big antique mall while I was visiting and I bought a camera (of course I bought a camera!): a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash, a cheap, but very pretty camera, so ubiquitous in it’s day that you can’t go anywhere, not even to the counter to pay for the thing, without someone sighing: ohhh, I had one of those when I {insert favorite nostalgic activity here}. And here’s the thing: what will my 13-year-old niece feel nostalgic about in 50 years? Her iTouch? The thing won’t work, the Hawkeye totally works and probably will in 50 years. Jeez, I sound like a crank!

Now, you kids! Get off my lawn!
